About Us
LUX ~ The Name
Lux comes from our family name Luxton, and also means light.
For us, it represents the heart of what we do ~ bringing light, beauty and meaning into everyday life.
Mel’s Story
I don’t know why wood came into my life. It just did, and I followed it.
Before the workshop, there was grief. I lost Cyder, my horse and companion of 32 years. I was completely undone by it. Ours was a relationship that went far beyond the ordinary bond between a person and an animal. Losing her left a silence that I didn’t know how to fill.
The wood arrived in that space. And it has never left.
Now my workshop is where my horses used to live. The same space that once held hay and warmth now holds wood – pieces of trees that were once living things, each one carrying the energy of what it was.
There is always a stillness in the workshop before anything begins. I choose each piece for its energy, its feel, its meaning. What it wants to become, it becomes. When a piece is finished it is smoke-cleansed and blessed before it leaves. The intention travels with it.
The wood carries its own energy. I am here to honour that – and let it find its way to whoever it’s meant for.
I can’t make things to order – the wood asks for time that can’t be rushed. But if something is meant for you, it will find its way to you.
That is Lux. That has always been Lux.
Alex’s Story
Things changed for me after my son Arthur was born. Becoming a mother made me look at everything differently – what mattered, what nourished, what didn’t.I started making candles during maternity leave, almost without thinking, and found I loved the process almost as much as the result.
My Mum is my confidante and my best friend. Watching her work – the devotion she brings to every piece- inspired me to bring the same intention to my candles. We decided they belonged together. Wood and flame. Intention and light.
The candles are hand poured from 100% soy wax, each one blended with essential oils, chosen for how they make you feel – not just how they smell. Candles for contemplation. For the quiet moments. Perfectly paired with a Lux pen and a blank page.
“I love candles, the scent and the ambiance they create, they are so simple yet so therapeutic.”
